It depends on the country or state you live in and the country you want to adopt from.
If you want to adopt internationally there can be restrictions, some countries allow singles to adopt, some only allow single females to adopt, some only allow couples to adopt, some only allow married couples to adopt.
Assuming you live in the US, it can depend on the state you live in, whether you are cohabitating and on your sexual orientation. You’d have to check with your states regulations.
If there are no provisions made in state regulation, the regular adoption procedures apply to single men.
Some agencies don’t want to work with singles in general or single males in particular.
yes the can adopt. It depends on what type of adoption you are seeking. I would suggest foster care. You simply contact your local DSS/CPS office and start the process. You must be 21 and you must have the room and ability to raise a child.
Yes you can, you just need to be able to pass the home study like everyone else, for foster care.
However, you will need to review the different requirements of each adoption agency/country you hope to adopt from. Some allow males to adopt; some don’t.
There are a lot of different factors that are going to affect the adoption. Is it your child, how old are you, is there any relation, etc. You will need to do a home study and prove that you can afford to give the child a good home. You are going to have to show that you are well qualified to be a dad. There will also be tons of paperwork, fees, and you will want to hire a lawyer.
All around its more difficult for single men because of all the pedophiles and rapists that have been adopting, abusing or killing adoptees.
Sadly, if pedophiles have a lot of money they may be able to bribe people to look the other way.
Single men can adopt domestically but most international adoptions require a married couple. The requirements should be the same for anyone because a public domestic adoption cannot be discriminatory. This is also true for same sex couples. Contact your local Department of Social Services for further information.
