Actually you wont be getting any income support whether you go back to work or not – the Government has replaced it with
Employment and Support Allowance as of yesterday!
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/welfarereform/employment.asp
The effect your working income will have on this new allowance is subject to the usual complex set of rules, I have tried to quickly review them and can tell you that if you work less than 16 hrs a week and earn less than £88.50 YOUR ALLOWANCE WILL NOT BE AFFECTED. Once you exceed either the time or amount things get complicated.

If you are going to work less than 16 hrs and earn less than £88.50 go ahead you will still get the full allowances.
If you are going to exceed either I suggest you phone your local jobcentre and make an appointment for someone there to explain the rules to you.
i am from the states so i do not know english rules — but if i was you i would go see the head of social services and get the facts directly from the horses mouth!!!!
