My cowoker asked me for advice on child support. Need answers from single dads please.?
My coworker is a young man. He is a Christian, a recovering alcoholic. He had a relationship that went awry, but had a baby with the ex-girlfriend. Now this "baby mama" is asking him for child support. He just started his job, and his finances are a mess, says he has no money. His car was repoed, and i think he is living with his mom. I need answers from guys facing similar battle so i can give good advice and support.

It is not his choice. The courts will say that the support will be determined upon his income no matter what. It is not the child’s fault that he has issues with money or alcohol. The courts will show no mercy and if he uses the alcohol as a reason he cant afford to pay then he will have no rights to the child and will still have to pay. Tell him to get ready to do the right thing or he will go to jail. It is the law no matter what.
Does not matter if you were to drunk to use protection you still will have to take care of what you did I hope by you saying he is a Christian means he will step up and do the right thing for the child. Please don’t ask the child to suffer because he is not at a good place in his life. Use this as a reason to get your act together.
I’m not single or a dad, but I feel compelled to answer anyway. His finances may be a mess, but his first priorty should be to support his child. He may not have a car right now, but he has a job and has money coming in. Some of that should go to support his child. I don’t know what kind of advice you’re looking for, but encourage him to contribute to raising his child, at least financially. You say he might be living with his mom. Isn’t it nice that this grown man has his parent supporting him, but the helpless baby is plagued by a father that doesn’t support him?
