I have a friend, 40 y/o single dad with a 6 y/o son, his only child. He has sole custody and gets child support from his ex-gf. She had 3 kids from other dads, but has custody of none of them; not "mom of the year". He doesn’t have any college, and he was discharged dishonorably from the navy for failure to show up for duty. He just got a temp job at /hr (never made "two digit" hourly wage before), but he is having attendence problems, because his son frequently gets sick and he can’t find a babysitter, and daycare won’t take a sick kid. He was told in a meeting with his management that his son’s doctor excuses don’t excuse him personally from missing work, even when he explained that he was a single dad. They gave him a warning, but fired one of his co-workers the same day for attendence issues. Since he is a temp, he gets no sick/vac, but he is paid directly by the company, a union shop. He is not working through a "temp agency". How can he keep his job & care for his son?
He has union dues deducted from his check, but he was told that he is not part of the union, unless he works a certain amount of days, since he is a "temp". He has worked for the company about 90 days.
I am writing a research paper and dont have much experience with statistics so i need some help. I ran a linear regression using family violence as the dependent variable and
%population not graduating highschool &
%single parent homes
as the independent variables
here is what spss tells me
Rsquare = .113
so if I say
Using family violence as the dependent variable in a stepwise regression it was found that %11 of the variance in census tracts was explained by %single parent homes and % without diploma.
also what does the column in spss that is telling me the signifigance of each mean? it says sig. for %single parent is .002 and for %without diploma is .007
Busy as we are with our normal life, have we ever though of the not so normal ones?? Here I am specially referring to the border line cases of autistic children. Unlike the physically handicapped ones & the severe cases of mentally handicapped ones, these children look ablosuletly normal, but are actually not normal at all.Their deceiving appearance actually adds to their problem as people fail to understand their problem. These children do not need special institutions to train them.They can be brought close to normal life in any mainstream school by allowing them to mingle with normal children.But most schools in our country refuse to give entrance to such children.The worst sufferers are the parents of these children who fight a lone battle receiving no support & understanding from the society. At present there seems to be no hope for them.Most people are ignorant regarding this problem.Please spare a thought for such children.
My twin Daughters have been brought up by their Gran & Papa. I have not been the best of Daughters and am a recovering addict. I am now a born again christian and spend alot of my time with the church and my 2 13yr old girlrs. Mum and I are always on the phone discussing their care and I see them all daily, (I have also got a 7 month old baby). My Sister booked a weeks Holiday for her and her family at easter and my parents booked themselves a caravan to join them and what i dont understand is why my younger daughter and myself have been univited? my whole life now revolves around the church and my family and for some reason i have been outcast when it comes to family events. I am ok to be involved in helping them out and helping to resolve all the family problems? my kids asked why i couldnt go and my parents just snapped at them,and made excuses. Please can u help me to make sense of this as I am very upset that i am the only one left at home x
Hi we have a college kid and is going to a 4 year college but did not get a single scholarship. Just a few grants every year and we have lots of student loans too.
She did apply for some on fast web way at the beginning, But got discouraged at how difficult and time consuming they are to apply; plus with a part time job and full time classes, its not something that is appealing for her to do on top of other things.
My question is this: " Are there any scholarships that PARENTS can apply for so that they can go towards the tuition of the child?? I lost my job and will definitely have time to apply on her behalf and maybe get a few scholarships for her.
I dont know if anyone knows of this kind of thing but if you do, I would appreciate any info you may have. thanks
FYI, I am in the USA & she is getting her Bachelors in Animation in a 4 yr college accredited by any univ.
