I am a single dad. When I was in to talk to my sons teacher yesterday, and explain why he would not be in school on Friday, she asked me about Mother’s day. She knows I’m a single dad, and wanted to know if I wanted my son to make a Father’s day card instead when they do their card project this week. I told her It was up to him. She also said that some of the kids, made Mothers Day cards, for their dads when there was mom in the household. I was a bit shocked, but it does make sense. So what is everyone else’s thoughts about it? Do any single Dads out there get mother’s day cards from their kids? How about single Moms that get father’s day cards? My son moved in last year just before father’s day. He made me a cute card out of paper and crayons, and I still have it. Also how many of the single parents take the kids out card shopping? Or do you send them with a friend or family member? I did that for Xmas gifts, but that’s it. Any input would be great! Thanks

This isn’t so much as a question as it is a comment. :) (So I hope it doesn’t get deleted)

I know a few great men who are doing it alone. I want to tell you how great you are! It can’t be easy, but cheers to you! Single moms are fabulous too, but I think single dads get slightly over looked.

SO, BRAVO TO YOU ALL!
…what kind of person would give a thumbs down to thank you…?
Hex: I mentioned single mothers, but the annoying thing is that single moms are so common now, that when there is a problem with child support or what have you, they don’t get proper attention. But, they get attention….

I think single dads never get the attention they deserve, negative or other wise. I am NOT trying leave ANYONE out here… :)

i hear a lot of divorced women, whose ex’s take the kids on teh weekends, vacations, pay child support, etc, refer to themselves as single moms.

Personally, i think a single mom is one who is truly doing it on her own. Has the kids 24/7 with minimal, if any, child support.

What do you think of divorced moms who refer to themselves as "single" moms? does that fit your definition of a single mom? Why don’t you ever hear divorced dads refer to themselves as "single" dads?

Is it possible for single moms to go back to school? I have wanted to be a nurse for so long, but I’m expecting a little girl in April and my husband doesn’t want me anymore. I really would love to go back to school and take classes to be a nurse, but there is no way I can do that AND work, is there government programs that support single mothers who want to go back to school?

There are a plethora of programs for single moms. Not much for single dads. It seems as though women wear this "single mom" thing for attention, sympathy, etc.
