Everyday in the news there’s a new study about this & that; a lot of these are unnecessary & done because the researcher needs work.

Take for ex., studies that most black kids are born to unwed mothers? the real truth is this: *most poor people in the US tend to have kids out of wedlock.
Another study: birth rates for minorities are increasing compared to that of whites? give me a break! whites are intermarrying a LOT more than before & I think that accounts for some of the change. *These statistics make me sick because all they do is encourage stereotypes about certain groups. In my church, every single black couple that I know is successful–they’re married, both parents with post-grad degrees etc. The poorest & least accomplished are white & many stay-at-home moms (not that anything is wrong with that). I think we should all be viewed as individuals & not a members of a group for every purpose.

Why are there so many questions asking whether or not someone is pregnant?! There are pretty standard methods of figuring this stuff out. Not to mention, why aren’t people using protection! Good grief, pulling out is not a reliable method. If you’re a woman having sex, why aren’t you on the pill, unless you want to have a baby? If you’re a man having sex, why aren’t you wearing a condom? Unplanned pregnancies are bad for the parents, the children, and our society. Nobody wants to be judgmental, but I’ll be honest. I judge you when you have children before you can afford to take care of them, when you’re not married, and when you’re not ready for raising them! Look at the statistics on this stuff, children of single parents are less likely to go to college and are more likely to be single parents themselves. Do the right thing and use reliable protection every time. And don’t forget, no matter what the conservative fundies tell you, abortion is legal in this country and sometimes not having a baby is the right choice.

Before you all hate on me, let me note that I have had sex for years (even in high school) without getting knocked up and if I had I would have done the right thing. I’m married, but I’m not ready to raise a person and pay for everything they need, including an education.

More of a vote or statement then a question, we celebrate mothers day, fathers day, grandparents day, boss’s day, secretaries day, teachers day…the list goes on…

What is missing from that list? The singles day…Why don’t we celebrate the independent person!. "Congratulations! Your single and independent. Hope your dreams come true!". I am saying this, cause I am single, and I am – one out of 6 women according to statistics that can’t have children cause I am infertile..so – my parents won’t be grand parents, I can’t be a mom, and I can’t make someone a father unless thier already a dad…and I am not in a place to adopt so! and I am single right now..so..just as a thought…There should be a singles day.." congrats, your single and independent and doing great..keep on trucking…! " and thats my vote…

I was reading the paper today, and an article on gang recruitment said that children from single-parent homes make easy targets for gang recruitment. I have also heard statistics from "16 and Pregnant" and other sources stating that kids from teen single parent homes have much higher odds for becoming teen single parents themselves. And then there are the statistics for higher levels of poverty, etc.
I know as a single parent, you don’t choose to have to deal these issues and you can only do the best you can do. But I’m wondering if single parents worry about these stats at all? What do you do about it?
